Beat Maker vs Music Producer

There have been many arguments about the difference between a beat maker and a producer, or if there is any difference. For my money there is a huge difference, but it's easy to get the lines blurred.

let's explore each title

Beat maker: Anybody can be a beat maker. if i gave my mom and hour of my time to each her the basics of FL Studio, i bet she'd have her first drum pattern made in no time. With technology and the internet, everybody is a beat maker. Everybody can download software and start making a bunch of crap.

But

what the beat maker lacks in structure, knowledge, and vision................is where the Music Producer comes in.

Music Producer: he or she is the overall general of the song arrangement. A producer can be a beat maker, but a beat maker can't be a producer. You need to be able to hear something rough, and see the potential of the song if done properly. Many music producers may not be classically trained instrumentalists, but many are born with the innate gift of hearing HITS.
many people will scream up and down that they gift, but it's evident in their work, that that gift is lacking. It used to be that an artist would get up with a producer and they would vibe in the studio, with the producer controlling the details of everything from the DB Levels of the drums to how the singer breathes while singing.

Such an art form is almost lost in this generation.

With the internet, the swarm of beat makers flooding the market with crap, and the speed at which record labels release artists. The job of the producer has increased ten-fold. Many producers need to have their songs completed b4 they send them out, i.e Intro, verses, hooks, bridges, etc. All this needs to be there for labels to hear you......A&Rs have told me straight up "only thing that should be missing from your beat is the artist".
In many ways it makes sense, but this corporate approach has led to the influx of Beat Makers disguising themselves as producers, and leading the way for "Microwave hits"......u sabi those songs now...........they're hot on the radio for like 2 mins and next thing you know, you forgot who the hell made this crap and even worse you're wondering why you're singing it.

Anyway.....that's my analysis on that issue

till the next time

Equipment Spotlight

As long as this site is up, i will never recommend or suggest a product that i don't use, or wouldn't think about using.

Today's equipment spotlight is my something i personally use. Definitely a small weapon that packs a lot of power.......if you know what you're doing.

I present to you the M-Audio Axiom 25 Key Midi Controller

Official Review: Don’t let the compact size of the Axiom 25 fool you. This advanced 25-key USB mobile MIDI controller features both semi-weighted action and assignable aftertouch, plus eight rubberized trigger pads that put drum programming and performance at your fingertips. Eight endless rotary encoder knobs let you get your hands on synth parameters, virtual mixer controls and more. Six transport controls can also be assigned to control other MIDI parameters. Virtually everything is freely MIDI-assignable—and the backlit LCD screen makes programming easy and intuitive. You get 20 memory locations for on-board storage, plus free Enigma editor/librarian software to manage an unlimited number of setups via computer.
My Review: Anybody who uses FL Studio without a midi controller can relate to the stress of individually clicking the notes of keys on the piano roll. Now this might not be stressful if you don't make music with real chords and complex instrument arrangements, but any keyboard players will tell you this is a hassle. With the Axiom, everything is a breeze, just hit record and go crazy. I particularly love the drum pads that come with it, i encourage everybody to run away from simply clicking where your kick and snare goes, and get into a natural rhythm by tapping away on the drum pads. I found out that gives your music a real HUMANIZING effect as opposed to it sounding robotic.
The only problem i have with the Axiom, is that the knobs are not as sensitive as i would want them to be. One little twist on the knobs can result in an abundance of the effect that i didn't need. Imagine u trying to open a door silently, and as you turn the knob, a fire alarm rings!!!!!!!

Overall i really recommend this controller. It's not so expensive, depending on where you buy it. But be prepared to pay $200.00 - $300.00. It's easy to maintain, it's portable, and does not require an AC outlet

it's a smart buy
